DGL Challenge Cup Announcement

Postby Warsprite » Sat Jun 20, 2009 3:40 pm

First order of buisiness, as many of you know, we will be having this year's special cup after the end of the tournament! The cup will consist of mixed teams competing to overcome various challenges, thus the DGL Challenge Cup (formerly the Gag Cup).

Okay ladies and gentlemen, this is how it's going to work:

The cup will be a swiss style tournament lasting 5 weeks! There will be one map/rule a week! Both teams must observe the rule, or risk forfeiting the game!

Rules, 1 per week, in some order to be decided by staff:

VIP (Silo, 4 heavies, 1 with each heavy weapon, 1 light with Enhanced Deck, Shotgun, no other active implants. passive implants ok)
For clarification here, both teams must abide by the rule. The heavies may have implants, the light, the VIP, may only have an Enhanced Deck, WR, IFF, coldsuit, SCS and a Shotgun.

The Failmatch (Vaccine, choose who on the other team plays what class and weapon, 2 lights, 2 mediums, 1 heavy) For clarification, you choose who, individually, on the other team will play what class and weapon. You do not choose their implants. Picking will be commence just before the start of the match, and be performed again at the half. The lower seeded team will pick 1 player's class and weapon, then the higher seeded team will pick one players classes and weapons, then the lower seeded team will pick two, then the higer seeded team will pick two, then lower picks two, then the higher picks two.

XXXCast (Broadcast, no primary weapons)

"WTF?!" (Exodus, corps all LR, punks all boltgun)

Rejection (Injection; 1 player on each team plays each of the following: smartlock, shotgun, GL, rocket, minigun NO LR/MK/Bolt/AR/Tesla/Ion/Basi)

Captains will form their own teams for the gag cup, and teams are limited to having three members of the same clan on the team at a time! Trying to get around that by leaving your clan to rejoin at the beginning of the next season will result in a suspension, so I wouldn't try that!

We invite everyone to begin forming teams for the Challenge Cup during the tournament. There isn't a division listed for the Challenge Cup yet, but that's coming soon.

Good luck and happy fragging,

My excitement, it overflows. I can't wait for this event, it will be ludicrous, I'm sure.

ETA: Also, requires 'Equilibrium' mode for all Smartlock teams. :D

Whats the point? Appears we have a winner already. Congrats team Cryptic!

OK... Obviously thats just a test or bug or whatnot. But, if thats a real clan getting together for the Challenge cup, why are they making a clan? Rules above state...

teams are limited to having three members of the same clan on the team at a time!

Now... Team Cryptic have set up as a clan, and are adding people to the clan. But... that means theyre gonna be limited to using only 3 people from that clan for their Challenge cup team. The four people in Team Cryptic are in the same clan now, limiting the number of them that can be in a Challenge cup team... they'll have to find 2 other people NOT in Team Crytpic to be able to field 5 people. Surely it would be much better to NOT make a clan.

Thats assuming team Crytpic are getting together for the Challenge cup.

This is the clan we're making for the Chalenge Cup, 3 of the members are in KaYa, 2 in nb, a secret pr0, and 1 more guy is yet to join (only 4 are actually registered for now).

Also, you have a really bad sense of humor if I may add.

Do you need a minimum of 7 players on your gag cup team?

You appear to be misunderstanding here. I thought this was clear, but let's try again. By "clan", we mean the groups that played together during the DGL season, and will presumably continue to play together throughout the next season, ie: nb, KaYa, ZLJ, etc...

We encourage teams for the gag cup (temporary in nature rather than permanent) to sign up in the same manner as Team Cryptic has. That should not be construed to mean that Dranzer, n0rb, n1co and qwuix are leaving their respective clans to make some new clan. That means they are playing together on the gag cup.

Team Cryptic is following the correct procedure.

Can I ask... How will restrictions be enforced? For example, in the VIP set up, how will the implants for the light be enforced? They could take something like WR, and it would be difficult for others to tell this, or could take IFF.

Also, for other set ups, will it be 1 infringement and disqualification? For example, accidentally using a primary weapon in XXXCast. Will it have to be repeated infringements of the rules?

This is all moot if there are gonna be actual in game game modes to enforce these things. But if not, could be something to consider.

The only real way to see if anyone uses WR or IFF is to make everyone record demos.

If you are having the problem where you cant be an admin on your challenge cup team, because you're already an admin elsewhere, try setting yourself as pure_admin on your challenge cup team for the time being.

i have a question about silo (VIP).

say for example, the whole team dies, then is it ok for 1 heavy to change light and that light to go heavy, this means that there would still be 4 heavies and 1 light at any time.

i would prefer, if the original classes picked, stay like they are for the whole round.

but the other way would be ok too.

There can only ever be 4 heavies and 1 light. If the light dies and another heavy dies, they can switch roles, but there can never be more than 1 light in play at any given time.

Is there any rule regarding who gets to pick attack/defence first?

And SWT is another implant that there is no point restricting for the Silo match. I would say that it would be more interesting to allow the light to choose their loadout freely, but at the very least SWT will have to be allowed, as there's no way to tell if it was taken.

@ whiteknight: thats what i was trying to say. i think it would be more interesting if the players had to stay as the class they picked, i.e the light always had to be the light and not be able to switch.

@ marvin: well we are assuming that both teams play fairly? but yes i want the light to be able to pick any loadout as well.

SWT is not allowed. Play by the rules. There's a no douchebag clause in the rules and I'd hope people are mature enough to play to have fun and respect the ruleset. The light also plays without any active implants. This way he is very much so the VIP that needs to be protected. There are no wallhack implants either, so that you do not know where the enemy team is. This is why there is no SWT.

We're not going to keep the people confined. If they want another person to play as the light midway through, that's fine. There's no benefit to having it any other way.

Oh yes, as for attacking and defending first, the matches are team AT team, where the second is home.
