Mid-August July Update.

Postby termi » Mon Aug 13, 2007 12:13 am

So we said we were going to keep you updated with what we are up to, well this is one of those updates.

Over the last few weeks the team have been doing a large amount of internal work to get things up and running again after our break.

First off, we would like to welcome Cin, Radz, DarkFalcon and obj as new moderators. They will be helping ANeutralShadeOfBlack and Don Redhorse with the task of keeping the forums on track & will also be involved in the restructuring of the forums.

We recently announced the arrival of the Dystopia Competition and we encourage the creative people of the community to participate. If you haven't already done so, you should head over to the Dystopia Competition Forum, in fact, even if you have already been there once, check it out again, there is some really cool stuff brewing.

As part of the forum restructuring, the development team have decided to scrap all .plans to make way for a brand new Team Blog. The new blog will allow individual team members to give everyone an insight into their area of development and will be updated whenever any of us feel the need, the need to.. erm... blog.

In an thinly veiled attempt at making up for the late update, we have two new maps to announce!

First up is Exodus, a brand new map by Trapt. Set in an urban environment facing destruction, the Punks must prevent the Corps from demolishing their area.

Next we have Injection, A new map by Lead Level Developer termi. It Involves the punks implanting a virus into the base of a rather large corporate arcology.

Does that mean that Assemble and Fortress have already been updated (Maybe Broadcast too)? It would be nice to get a small patch fixing them a bit, I honestly think that's more important than releasing new maps atm (Unbalanced teams are already a big problem, it doesn't have to be made harder by making punks nearly unable to lose in Assemble, or to win in Fortress).

Anyway, the new maps look great :D Specially Exodus (I love the look of urban maps like Detonate or Broadcast) ^^

Good that u devs are finally showing your heads and publishing what's been under construction. Don has especially been very active in forums, don't get exhausted with all that work :)

Elman has a point here. I've played dys my whole summer when I had free time of work, and noticed many people (including me) complaining about assemble, fortress and proudcast. Those maps need some fixing, I won't go to details now but the fact is that they need fixing.
Sorry about always bitching about everything if it feels like that but once you go trough the same goddamn frustrating scenarios all over again, you just might wish them to be fixed.

Ahh. An answer. But keep in mind you can't fix them by looking at them yourself. You gotta ask us what's wrong with them. We commies have most experience with the maps after all since we are the ones who has to deal with them every day.

Nice, it's good to know you'll update them :P (Undermine's quite nice, though, Twincannon ^^ Although the 3rd obj is hard for newbies to learn)

Awesom! Gotta say though that those new maps woudlnt hurt to have alittle more detail (See broadcast, I love the cyberpunk atmosphere in that map) :D

Of course, I assume they are WIP's :)

But I cant wait to play them even if they are not uber awesome looking like Broadcast, the enviornments look like alot of fun to play in :D

Oh, and does anyone get the urge to just... LEGBOOST up that construction on EXODUS!? PLLEassee tell me there is some kind of secret side entrance for using legboosters, it would be nice if some more maps would actually have places on them that can only normally be reached if you have leg boosters ;)

The first thing that should have been done was quality control, not working on new content. New content is great, but fixing stuff that you can fix should be the top priority. If a measure of quality control isn't taken and addressed more seriously around here as far as maps go, you guys are just going to end up with buggy maps that people bitch about all the time every time a new map is released.

I don't like sounding like Mr Negativity all the time, but that's just how things are anywhere you go, be it real life at work, or a game you're developing.

However, as always, I am looking forward to new content.

True, but consider this. This next update most likely won't have a bunch of new weapons and implants to work out. It'll be focused on maps, both old and new, and bug fixes (at least as far as I know). With the severely lessened workload, more development and testing of the maps will occur.

So did you get the vehicles working for injection or just make the map smaller? or am i thinking of something else?

Shot look kinda dark, its not going to be like some of the others where you cant see much at times is it?
Fuzzy wrote:I don't get it.

Any chance you could explain it in a way that someone who isn't completely obsessed with stats will understand?
