Some of you know me, and some of you don't, so for those who don't: Hi! I'm Laguana, the new Lead Tester.
Testing has been starting up again, and we've found that we're lacking in dedicated, active testers. And so, I turn to you, the community.
Now, before I go listing the requirements, I thought I'd go into what it's actually all about.
While you might think that testing is all about playing with new shiny toys and getting developers to make the game you want and lollipops and happiness, it's not quite that way.
You do get to see new things: Sometimes, not as often as you'd like. Sometimes, more often than you want. Sometimes, you like the changes. Sometimes, you don't. However it is, there's an expectation that you test it. What does it mean to test it? Lots of things are involved, ranging from the basic "Does it do what it should when i do what i'm supposed to", to "Can i break it", to "Does everything else work with this?"
These aren't trivial things to do. Some bugs are quite strange, and hard to pin down. Some bugs can go unnoticed until someone stumbles across it. Other things, like balance and fun, simply require time and people to work the kinks out.
And this is the heart of the matter. Testing takes time. Ideally, you enjoy your work, and the time it takes isn't an issue. However, testers are obliged to put in several hours a week, turning up to scheduled tests so we can get things done. Sometimes when things change, you don't like the change, but you just have to keep going and keep trying to make it a better game.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is you won't always get exactly what you want, but that's not what it's about. If you want to help make a good game even better, then consider applying.
As for what we require:
There are 4 test sessions each week, lasting an hour or two, and you have to be able to turn up to at least one regularly, preferably more.
Note that AEDST = GMT + 11, EST = GMT - 5
- Code: Select all
Monday:
0800 / 8am GMT = 1900 / 7pm AEDST = 0300 / 3am EST
Tuesday/Wednesday:
0300 / 3am GMT Wed = 1400 / 2pm AEDST Wed = 2200 / 10pm EST Tue
Wednesday/Thursday:
2000 / 8pm GMT Wed = 0700 / 7am Thu AEDST = 1500 / 3pm EST Wed
Saturday/Sunday:
0100 GMT Sun / 1200 AEDST Sun / 2000 EST Sat
An open mind. The devs are the ones who are creating the game, and while they usually welcome your input, they do have the final say. If you're not going to be able to cope with things not being exactly how you want them, you won't fit in very well.
Experience with Dystopia is a must. You don't have to be the best player, but knowledge of the classes, weapons, and implants is obviously helpful.
Having both initiative to do things on your own, and the ability to work with others is also a must.
As well as turning up to the test sessions, being on IRC and reading the forums regularly for updates and information is a necessity as well. Having a working mic is useful as well, along with Ventrillo for coordinating test sessions.
If you feel you meet these conditions, then send me a PM on the forum (There's a button below this post). Applications for a limited time only.
