6 days to go before they turn on the LHC, and obviously something will go wrong.

They know it... But at least they're taking precautions :D

Gather your crowbars, people. It's time!

You're Wrong!

Twice

If it does go to shit, I'll be on an Island somewere on the West or NorthWest coast of Scotland. The advantages of an Island are immense, and you can sometimes get a good surf out there. You're welcome to join me. Please bring booze/drugs/women and together we will create a new and better society.

Really though... we have nothing to fear... and if we do have something to fear it will be so catastrophic (like a black hole forming and sucking 1/2 - 3/4 of the planet into it) that noone will be around to say I told you so.

Edit: I was told that they were televising the 'start-up' (its already started), but they're not... they are broadcasting it live on BBC Radio 4 starting 0830 BST... its called the Big Bang Day. I can hear Andrew Marr now... "And some kind of... of... portal has opened up... And something is coming through... my god its a mutant Nick Robinson!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!"

If things do go to shit, at least I won't have to worry about organic chemistry anymore >_>

Should we start obtaining weapons and ammo and start placing them randomly around the science lab they're using and create pointless and frustrating puzzles along the way?

Y'know... Just incase something goes wrong.

And make sure keys and key cards for doors etc. are placed nowhere near the doors they open.

And you have to do that puzzle with see saw and tons of heavy stuff around. So you know they would have to use their MIT physics grade brains to get across. And don't forget how every single person will trust those heavily armed and covered in alien filth scientists with their very lifes, giving them whatever help they need and providing vehicles that they could otherwise use as means of escape.

Damn I wish I could toss a crowbar to some bearded scientist in glasses and weird suit and say "Go kick some ass dewd!", pointing at infinite crowds of enemies equipped with nasty firearms and lazor beemz. I can't wait O_O

I would love to have whatever insane (and invisible) forcefield that guy has (in his suitcase?). Whenever you shoot him with whatever from your regular 9mm generic pistol to RPG, he just fixes his tie and walks away. FUCKBALLS!

I have to play trough HL1 and 2 again and buy the episodes before shit hits the particles, just to be prepaired tho...

He is a god of Fate, you know (or close enough - he's basically a transcendent being who can fuck with probability).

Then who the hell are his "employers"? I just shat brix.

Also whole G-man thing is probably most intriguing plot trick in whole gaming history. I'm not really into episodes but I think I just might grab some to see how it all ends.

We also had a discussion in Dys, about LHC, and I've heard that while it starts in 3 days, it will take it 2 months to accelerate particles to collision speed. We have time people. Loose your virginity, oil your weapons, dust off your HEV Suits and paint your crowbars. Combine is at the gates.

No... I disagree... finding out Sarevok is your brother did it for me.

I'm bookmarking that Webcast thing... Though Im figuring it won't be exactly live (a few second delay), if happens quick we're not gonna see it happen.

Just a random though. Imagine the guy who has to start it all. Like push the button or whatever (altho I'm sure it won't be like that, but duh). Having humanities faith on the end of your finger tip. I shat brix again.

Considering he's in the employ of one or more entities that really, really want to see the Combine fucked up (and have the means to pay, thus are probably on a similar level of power)?

Yeah, shit away.

This is what I love about HL/HL2 - the metaplot. The games themselves give you fuck all plot, but think about it for a second - you're practically average Joe; the only thing that distinguishes you from everyone else is your MIT degree and that powered exosuit with electroactive ballistic armour and automated medical station installed; and even then, in HL1, it was just the suit - all the scientists had the same level of education, if not better. You're not meant to get the bigger picture.

This is compounded tenfold by the fact that Earth is just a shitty backwater world (and I do mean dimension, not planet - you thought the Milky Way was big, let alone the universe? Well, think again; turns out there are things out there much, much bigger than your tiny galaxy) by the standards of the real political power players at large - pandimensional empires like the Combine, who've been harvesting entire planets and populations for an undetermined yet presumably long time, and whoever's out there with the power, money and balls to oppose them semi-directly. It's a brilliant piece of design.

It's a brilliant piece of evading plot and having enough leanway to come up with any twist and turn you want artifically elongating a lifeless string of setpieces without any purpose. every episode until now introduced a mac guffin, the thing you are after or fleeing from, one of the most over-used and unimaginative devices in storytelling. next up: voice-over. oh, wait. we already got that.

fixed ;)

PS: I like HL, it's meant humorous

My dad, being a physicist at university, is holding an "after-end-of-the-world" party with his uni colleagues, and will be viewing the live webcast of it up on a big screen.

Wish I was as cool as scientists are.

Elman, computer science isn't a real science, so stfu, you are not cool.

Not to get all uppity, but being from Wyoming, I feel the need to point out the glaring errors in the first paragraph of this. It is not a National Park, its a National Forest, and it isn't in Wisconsin, its in Wyoming - as should be obvious by the title.

Also, if the LHC does happen to tear a hole in the planet, and you feel the need to go to Wyoming, look me up, as I'm already here :D

If the LHC does happen to tear up the planet, there is no need for you to wait for me in Wyoming, i'm only 5 days from it. Wait, that was by foot. Actually it's only like 5 hours.

So see you in afterlife, if there is any. I will be waiting for you.

EDIT: Can't find it right now, but i remember someone said the LHC was invented to prevent the participating countries to develop nuclear weapons and stuff, as you can either finance that or the LHC, not both. Seems like it was only a partial success, as the LHC is a weapon of mass destruction itself
Lyta had a little Vorlon, her skin was pale as snow. And everywhere that Lyta went, the Vorlon was sure to go.

The LHC won't tear open reality -_-

At least, not unless the GMan alters the experiment to make it do just that :P Like he did in Black Mesa :3
