Interview with Gamecloud.com
Gamecloud - The first release of the mod had some amazing artwork and UI features. How hard was it to get these assets in the Source engine?
Fuzzy - We've been very lucky in that we have an extremely talented graphics effects coder on the team. Previous to Dystopia, Epicar had created a lot of winamp plugins and this experience really shows through with the Indentify Friend / Foe system and the Sound Wave Triangulator implant. With the majority of the team located in Australia and Epicar being from the US, he did a lot of this work in isolation. We'd see him just as we woke up and he'd show us the incredible work he'd done while we were asleep. The upside of having a programmer in Australia and one in the US was having constant progress on the game 24 hours a day.
Interview with HalfLife Inside
HL Inside: By the second day of release Dystopia reached popularity of HL2DM in terms of number of people playing (based on Valve's stats). How do you feel about that?
Fuzzy: Extremely happy. Honestly we didn't even hazzard a guess at the number of players our demo would draw in, when we saw that we had more players than HL2DM we realised that there was a lot of interest in Dystopia. Even more incredible was that this 2200 concurrent player peak was limited by the number of servers which were up. To see every single server full with players was incredible.
Interview with Amped News
Amped DX: Are you able to give us a hint as to whats to come besides more maps?
Dystopia:Our big draw card feature will the addition of vehicles. They'll be feaured in a specific phase of a map, generally in the "insertion phase" where the two teams will be driving vehicles to the building or fascility where the main action will take place. Once the attacking team have completed the first objective and got a foot hold to continue launching their attack, vehicles will stop being part of the action.
My other great news is that the Dystopia demo will be appearing on the cover disks of a number of print magazines; PC Zone, PC Jeux, Joystick and Computer Gaming World.
